Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is a drug-free, physiologically compatible health care that allows the body to heal itself by allowing the nervous system to function better. When nerve interference is removed with gentle chiropractic adjustments, healthy cell metabolism, organ function, and mental and physical well-being are restored. According to the research, that means more energy, better movement, and a stronger immune system. More and more families are choosing chiropractic because no one is ever too young or too old to obtain a healthy nervous system for life. Because we are steeped in the history and clinical excellence of the Gonstead Technique, our patients have gotten results where other medical and chiropractic systems have failed. Unlike regular chiropractic that mainly focus on immediate pain relief, Gonstead Chiropractic goes one step further to also correct the source of the problem. That’s why most patients under our care not only report relief from pain and discomfort, but as their spinal discs heal, posture begins to align, they notice other conditions clearing up as well. The Gonstead Technique recognizes that proper intervertebral disc function is the foundation to a healthy spine and nervous system. Physical and emotional traumas can shift and misalign the spinal bones directly injuring and altering the mechanics of the intervertebral discs. Disc injury causes soft tissue damage, swelling and tissue expansion irritating the delicate nerves nearby. This nerve pressure negatively affects the organs and glands under their control. As a result, the damaged and unstable spinal joints then tighten the surrounding muscles. Spinal misalignments causing nervous system interference is called vertebral subluxation and can be present without symptoms. If left uncorrected, subluxation may lead to spinal decay over time. Correcting subluxation is the focus of your chiropractic care. Your customized corrective care plan will consist of a series of specific Gonstead chiropractic adjustments that are gentle, safe, and effective. Adjustments at specific places and the right time help restore the structure of your spine and the function of your nervous system. As nerve interference is removed, your body’s ability to heal, function and operate is restored and symptoms often subside.

DISC BIOMECHANICS

Correct biomechanics of the intervertebral disc is at the foundation of the Gonstead Technique. There are 24 discs in the spine. They are organs that act as nerve spacers. They allow the hole where your spinal nerves exit the spine to be as large as possible. The discs have a nucleus that acts as a “ball bearing” to allow proper movement of the spinal joint. Because the discs have a poor blood supply, they rely on a hydraulic pumping action to get nutrients in and out of the discs. This pumping action is called imbibition and is defendant on alignment and movement to work correctly. If the spinal joints are misaligned, the joint does not move well and the disc malfunctions. Poor disc mechanics result in disc degeneration or “dehydration” and spinal decay.

NERVOUS SYSTEM

Because chiropractic care directly addresses the health of your nerve system, many of your body’s other systems are also affected, indirectly.  Your central nervous system – your brain and spinal cord – is your body’s master system. Every other organ, tissue, and cell receives instructions on when and how to do its job from the nerve system, via spinal nerves and smaller nerve branches.  Your spine houses and protects your nervous system, the most delicate and important organ system, which is responsible for your day-to-day bodily functions. From your immune, cardiovascular, and digestive system, to sexual function and mobility – your nerves are responsible for sending vital information and energy from the brain to your organs through your spine. Just as a kink in a garden hose can dramatically reduce the flow of water coming from the tap, a spine out of alignment dramatically reduces vital information going from your brain to vital organs. Thus, your organs are much more susceptible to malfunction and disease. It’s not just a coincidence that people with poor posture tend to lack energy and suffer from fatigue, experience random aches and pains, as well as suffer from headaches, allergies, ear infection, sleeping disorders, gastrointestinal issues, asthma, high blood pressure, etc. Simply put, when your nerve system is not functioning properly your body as a whole will not function properly.  A healthy nervous system helps ensure good health in your gastrointestinal, cardiopulmonary, endocrine systems, and other systems as well.

CORRECT POSTURE

The curves in your spine act as a spring or shock absorber that resist gravity. They also protect and reduce forces acting on the spinal cord and nerves exiting the spine. Proper curves are dependent on the health of your intervertebral discs. Unfortunately, gravity, poor posture, improper physical activity, injury, and disease can all play a role in the misalignment of your spinal joints and, as a result, affecting the entire structure of your body. More and more families are discovering the many benefits associated with chiropractic care. The Gonstead System of Chiropractic is timeless and has been trusted since 1923 by millions of satisfied patients worldwide.
